JUNE 28, 2023: We are delighted to announce that Wilton has been awarded a $17,000 Community Challenge grant from AARP. This grant will fund the creation of a shaded, handicapped-accessible gazebo on the Wilton Riverwalk, by the bank of Stony Brook. The gazebo will serve as a new gathering space in downtown Wilton, and serve as the home base for a new innovative Wilton Senior Citizens Science Program (WSCS).
Open to residents aged 50 and over, the WSCS program will train individuals to observe wildlife and catalog their findings for the Wilton Conservation Commission's Natural Resource Inventory.
This year’s Community Challenge Grant process was the most competitive ever, with 3,600 applications and just 310 grants awarded nationwide.
In addition to the grant from AARP, the Wilton Alliance (www.wiltonalliance.org), a non-profit organization dedicated to investing in the future of Wilton, will be contributing funds to support this program.
