Meet Our New Recycling Center Manager

Meet Our New Recycling Center Manager!
Posted on 09/26/2019

New Wilton Recycling Center Manager Carol Burgess says she first got interested in recycling as a “picker”!  As any fan of the TV show American Pickers knows, once it is in your blood it never leaves.

Carol comes to Wilton with quite a bit of experience in the field. Most recently she was the Recycling Center Supervisor in Greenfield since 2010, and prior to that worked at the recycling centers in Brookline, Hollis and Amherst.  She is a certified Senior Principle Solid Waste Operator, Hazardous Waste Coordinator, and a licensed Weighmaster.

Carol is excited by this opportunity to lead a successful recycling center to make it more efficient, effective and above all, safe.  She wants to focus in particular on traffic flow throughout the center, improved lighting for operating hours after dark, and much more.  She says that there is also a lot of “behind-the-scenes” improvements that can be made in terms of more efficient processing of materials through the center.  She believes Wilton is fortunate to have customers across 5 towns (including Lyndeborough, Temple, Mason and Greenville), so is of a size that can take advantage of better pricing.

Carol currently lives in Brookline, having arrived in New Hampshire in 1985 after moving with her husband from Pennsylvania.  She took her first recycling job in Brookline in 2003.

Carol officially started on September 9th and has spent her first couple of weeks meeting with employees and others across town government, as well as the other towns the recycling center supports. She also met with members of the informal “friends of the recycling center” team, which has been doing great work in sprucing up the center, including painting and planting of shrubs and trees.

Please stop by the Recycling Center and give Carol a warm welcome!
