WILTON SEWER DEPARTMENT
RATE INCREASE EFFECTIVE JAN. 1, 2023

Wilton Sewer Department is co-owner / co-permittee of the Milford Wastewater Treatment Facility.  As such, WSD must operate and maintain its waste disposal system in a manner consistent with strict standards required by Milford, State and Federal authorities. Wilton pays 14.89% of the cost to operate and improve the MWWTF that serves the Town of Wilton.

WSD’s only source of revenue is User Fees. Not only must the User Fee cover the cost of sending waste downstream, but it also must cover the cost of maintaining, repairing and upgrading pipes in the ground in Wilton.  The Sewer Department does its best to keep our municipal sewer system affordable, but inevitably faces several challenges each year -

  • Increases to Milford’s rates passed on to Wilton Sewer customers due to federally mandated infrastructure projects.
  • Repairs and upgrades to WSD infrastructure – pipes, manholes, pump stations, etc
  • Build a reserve for emergencies.

Commissioners believe that the new rate, effective with the billing for Jan-Mar 2023, of $150 per unit per quarter, will allow us to operate its budget for 2023. More increases may be necessary but the proposed new rate continues to be less than others in the area.

Everyone in Wilton benefits from having a municipal sewer system whether or not your home or business is connected.  We are exploring and have received grants that support both daily operations and long-range plans.  In the meantime, Wilton Sewer Department is committed to providing outstanding service to its Users and the Town at a fair and affordable rate for many years to come.

WSD meets on the second Thursday of each month at 6:30PM in the Town Hall Courtroom.  We invite you to attend these sessions, which are open to the public, to offer input and learn how YOU can help keep the system flowing smoothly.

Thank you for your continued support of the Wilton Sewer Department!

Respectfully,

Wilton Sewer Commission

Please do not flush wipes, even so-called "flushable" ones.

Wipes, including disinfectant ones, paper towels, and anything other than toilet paper clog your sewer or septic pipes, the municipal sewer pipes, pumping stations, and waste-water treatment plants. If you need to use a substitute for toilet paper, put it in a bag and throw it out.

The Wilton Sewer Commission oversees Wilton’s public sewer system and has created an ordinance (see link at right) which sets forth uniform requirements for contributors into the wastewater collection and treatment system for the Town of Wilton, N.H., and enables Wilton to comply with all applicable State and Federal laws.

The Commission also oversees and sets sewer use fees to fund the work of the department, including Wilton’s participation in the Milford-Wilton Wastewater agreement, in which wastewater services are provided to Wilton by the Milford system.  Sewer use bills are issued 4 times per year on a quarterly basis.  The USER FEE is $150 per unit per quarter, effective January 1, 2023.  Sewer bills that are not paid on a timely basis are subject to a late fee of $5 and 8% interest; a lien may also be placed on your property.

Sewer Commissioners normally meet on the second Thursday of each month at 6:30 PM in the Town Hall Court Room.

The three Commissioners are elected annually on a rotating basis to serve a 3-year term.
