Wilton Announces New Fire Chief

After an extensive search for a qualified individual to fill the position of full-time Fire Chief which included candidates from across the nation, the Wilton Fire Department and Town of Wilton are excited to announce that Norm Skantze of Swanzey, New Hampshire has accepted the position, effective April 7, 2025.

Chief Skantze brings more than 40 years of emergency service experience to the job, including Fire Chief and Emergency Management Director positions at the Bristol, NH Fire Department, Swanzey, NH Fire Department and the Wolfboro, NH Fire Department, In addition, Chief Skantze has served as the Chief Coordinator of the Lakes Region Mutual Fire Aid Association as well as performing duties as the Deputy Code Enforcement Officer in the Town of Gilford. Chief Skantze has also served as the chairman of the NH Board of Fire Control and is currently an On-Call Deputy Fire Chief for Swanzey Fire.

Chief Skantze holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Management – Public Administration and an Associate in Arts degree - Safety, both from Keene State College. In addition to his extensive Pro-Board Fire Certifications, Chief Skantze is a Nationally Registered Advanced Emergency Medical Technician. Chief Skantze and his wife are looking forward to relocating to Wilton in the immediate future to fill the position.
